Sustainable Upcycling with Lauren of Sew Mojo
Breathe new life into your old clothes and thrifted finds with creative upcycling. We’ll cover innovative ways using fabrics and notions to turn ready-to-wear clothes into one-of-a-kind statement pieces. Bring a few pieces from your wardrobe you’d like to upcycle. Recommended for adults who have some machine sewing experience or has taken Beginning Sewing 1.
Ages 16 and up.
What you'll need:
All students receive a 10% discount on supplies for class.
- A few items of clothing to upcycle
- 1 small spool of Gutermann thread
- Fabric scissors
- Pins
- Marking pen or chalk
About our guest instructor: Lauren Fonville is the founder of Sew Mojo, a mobile sewing school based in Los Angeles that specializes in fashion and costume-design education. With over 15 years of experience as a seamstress, patternmaker, and custom-made costumer, Lauren has contributed to films and television series such as "Hacks," "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "The Suicide Squad," "Mandalorian," and "Deadwood."
A proud member of Motion Picture Costumers, IATSE Local 705, Lauren offers bespoke garment-making, alteration services and custom quilts alongside her role at Sew Mojo. She is thrilled to bring her sold-out classes to the DC-area in summer 2025.
