Capsule Wardrobe Weekend Workshop with Leila Kelleher of Muna & Broad

$ 40.00

We're excited to host Leila Kelleher of Muna and Broad for the very first workshop in our brand new space! Muna and Broad is an indie sewing pattern company that focuses on modern patterns for the plus sized body. Whether you're new to sewing or an experienced sewist, we promise this weekend will be a celebration of our bodies through sewing garments that will make you feel amazing.

This workshop is offered " a la carte" style -- so students may take one, two or all three. See below for a full description of each class.

About your instructor: Leila Kelleher (she/her)

Leila is the patternmaker and one half of Muna and Broad, an independent sewing pattern company that centres and empowers large bodies. Her patterns focus on fit and are designed to delight the maker with interesting construction details and techniques. Leila studied fashion production and worked in the custom clothing industry and wardrobe for film and theatre before changing careers. She holds a PhD in Biomechanics (the science of human movement)and is a professor of Biomechanics. She is a skilled adult educator and facilitates a safe space in her workshop settings. Leila combines her knowledge of the human body with her expertise in fashion production to create sewing patterns that provide a great fit for large bodies.

You can bring an MB garment at any stage to get help with fitting, size selection, general sewing tips, advice on levelling up your makes, help with specific techniques. Come with your pieces cut out, garment partially sewn, or a toile/muslin to receive a la carte assistance. Space is limited to ensure you receive the attention you need.
    *You’ll receive a Muna and Broad discount code for any pattern

    Saturday & Sunday: Noice Jeans Workshop, 10a-5pm

    Hey there, noice jeans! Jeans making is daunting but someone with some garment sewing experience can conquer it with a bit of help. The Muna and Broad Noice Jeans pattern is either a mom jean or a wide leg silhouette with an ultra-high rise. The rise makes the rigid denim comfy for large bodies – try it and see!
    In this workshop you’ll get help with fitting (a biggie!), learn the world’s easiest fly insertion technique, tips and tricks for dealing with sewing thick fabrics on a domestic machine, and guidance through the process of jeans making. You’ll come with a special fitting toile/muslin made with pre-sent instructions (don’t worry – there are no pockets or fly on the muslin!) to ensure that your time in the workshop is spent wisely. You’ll get individualized help to select your base size for your muslin. In the workshop, we will also have a machine/s set up with topstitching thread so you don’t have to switch your thread back and forth! How advanced at sewing do you need to be? It depends! You should be confident withmaintaining an accurate seam allowance, cutting out, operating a sewing machine/general sewing skills. You’ve probably sewn some pants (could be elastic waisted) before, but that’s not
    a dealbreaker.
    *You’ll receive a Muna and Broad discount code for any pattern/s
