Intro to Sewing with Lauren of Sew Mojo

Master the domestic sewing machine and make your first project in only two hours! In this fun, interactive class, we’ll guide your through the different parts of a sewing machine and their functions. Practice threading, basic stitches (straight stitch, zigzag), backstitching, and sewing with accuracy. No sewing experience necessary. Sewing machines will be provided.  

Ages 16 and up. 

What you'll need:

All students receive a 10% discount on supplies for class. 

• 1/2 yard of quilting cotton
• 1 small spool of Gutermann thread
• Fabric scissors
• Pins
• Marking pen or chalk

Students are welcome to use our sewing machines & irons/ironing boards. If you'd like to bring your own machine, please let us know prior to class. 

About our guest instructor: Lauren Fonville is the founder of Sew Mojo, a mobile sewing school based in Los Angeles that specializes in fashion and costume-design education. With over 15 years of experience as a seamstress, patternmaker, and custom-made costumer, Lauren has contributed to films and television series such as "Hacks," "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "The Suicide Squad," "Mandalorian," and "Deadwood."

A proud member of Motion Picture Costumers, IATSE Local 705, Lauren offers bespoke garment-making, alteration services and custom quilts alongside her role at Sew Mojo. She is thrilled to bring her sold-out classes to the DC-area in summer 2025.
