Three Little Birds Sewing Co
Fit Workshop --- Intermediate/Advanced Garment Sewing
Fitting is often the trickiest and most frustrating part about garment sewing. We’ve designed this course for students who have previously sewn garments and are interested in improving the fit of their bodices. Throughout this class, you will make several muslins as you learn which pattern adjustments you need to make. You will not complete a garment but instead, you'll walk away with a final pattern ready for you to make a well fitting top or dress.
What you’ll need:
- The Fitting Book by Gina Renee Dunham
- Top or Dress pattern of your choice*, must have a dart and preferably sleeves
- Swedish Tracing Paper
- Muslin (enough to make 2-3 bodices)
- Contrast thread
- Marking Pen
- Rulers (straight and a french curve)
- Notebook, ruler, pencils
Class #1: Students will learn how to take proper measurements, make basic adjustments (such as add length or grading between sizes), and cut and sew their first muslin.
Class #2: Students will have their first fit evaluation with the instructor. After determining what bodice adjustments need to be made, students will make their second muslin.
Class #3: Sleeve and neckline adjustments. Students will make their 3rd muslin and learn how to transfer their adjustments to their final pattern.
*Please note that the focus of this class is making a well fitting bodice. If you need help selecting a pattern or have questions in general, please stop by the store or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. For those interested in pants fitting, we will have a class coming this spring!
